Buying property in Turkey - Our customers experiences

' I bought a middle-floor, 2-bed apartment in Kalkan for £50,000.
There are 6 apartments on the development, 3 in each of 2 blocks that share a swimming pool roughly 45 square metres in size. I bought the apartment through property-turkey.co.uk 's Agent in Kalkan and found them excellent to work with.

I had done a lot of research via the internet and had a short-list of properties that I wanted to view before I made the trip to Turkey back in March 2005. I was making the trip by myself and had to make sure I picked the right property otherwise I would have been in the doghouse at home.


I viewed properties in the Fethiye area, Kalkan and Kas through a variety of agents - all were very helpful and there was no "hard sell" from any of them. Finally I settled on the apartment in Kalkan and was introduced to the seller and the deal was settled over a cup of Turkish cay.

The worst part of the experience was waiting 4 months for the military clearance to come through before I could receive the all important Tapu. However, I was very re-assured by the fact that the seller gave me keys when the sale was agreed and I used the apartment for a holiday before receiving the Tapu.

I took some limited advice from an English lawyer but soon decided to dispense with his services as I felt comfortable with the Turkish agent.

I would recommend that anyone thinking of buying should do as much research as possible before going out to Turkey and that should include making contact with prospective local agents in the resorts that you are interested in.



Fortunately for me, the rest of the family approved of my choice of apartment and we had two holidays there last year and have just returned from a 3-week stay.


Kalkan is a beautiful, relatively un-commercial, unspoilt and laid back resort and Turkey is a beautiful country with very friendly natives. We would like to rent the apartment out but admit we haven't tried too hard - anyone thinking of buying should not assume they will be able to rent out and if you can still afford it then go ahead and buy. '
