New law opens up Turkish property market and makes the buying process quicker

14th May 2012

If you havent already heard, a new law relating to foreign ownership of property in Turkey has passed parliament.

The new law:


• Lifts restrictions on the old reciprocity agreement for foreign ownership, which basically means that more nationalities can buy in Turkey. This will open up the market to investments from the Middle East, Russia and Asia.

Will increase the amount of land Foreigners can acquire in Turkey from 2.5 hectares to 30 (this may get raised to 60)

Will remove alot of red tape for buyers and speed up the buying process, what currently takes 2-3 months could be reduced to 2-3 weeks


This new law will provide a massive boost to the property market in Turkey and is expected to create 1 million extra property sales.


In the third quarter of 2011, Turkey was the fastest growing economy in the world.

Exchange Rates

Having just returned from a quick visit to Turkey to see family , i was amazed how much difference the exchange rate can make. Having spent some time in europe last year, the difference in living costs was quite considerable.

In Turkey i was pleasantly surprised at the costs of eating out, the small change has made quite a difference when comparing to the Euro.

Applying that to the prices of properties when buying in Lira, amounts to huge savings compared to a couple of years ago.

2 years ago this would have cost ~ £154,000
At todays rate it is ~ £123,000
A saving of £31,000 !
