A bustling, modern city, Antalya has a charming old quarter, overlooking a harbour filled with yachts and tour boats. Enclosed by the city's historic walls, the narrow streets of Kaleici are lined with picturesque wooden houses, many of which have been converted into atmospheric small hotels, art galleries and restaurants. Down by the waterfront are a row of cafes where you can sit and watch the local fishermen at work. There is also a small beach where you can have a cool dip, although most people head for the long sandy beach at Lara, a relaxed seaside suburb 10 kilometres from the centre. Also within easy reach of the city are a string of interesting attractions, such as the ancient city of Perge and the beautiful waterfalls of Kursunlu. Antalya has an excellent variety of restaurants, with everything on offer from traditional Turkish food, to Chinese or European cuisine. The city also boasts a huge market filled with fresh local produce, as well as several large, modern shopping centres. Antalya International Airport, 10 kilometres east of the centre, has regular charter flights direct to the UK, with daily scheduled Turkish Airlines services via Istanbul.
